摘要 1470067 Current control for welding arc AIR PRODUCTS & CHEMICALS Inc 6 Dec 1974 [20 March 1974] 52871/74 Heading G3R A controlled supply system for a D.C. arc in inert gas welding apparatus employs both current and voltage feedback to provide running stabilization of the arc and has a starting arrangement for ensuring correct current build up and an overcurrent protection circuit which responds both to large short term surges as well as longer periods of over-current. The supply for arc 26 is derived from a mains transformer 12 through a controlled rectifier assembly 14 operated by firing unit 55. A shunt 22 provides a current signal input to unit 45 and the voltage across the arc is supplied to unit 46. The circuits 45, 46 typically are ganged potentiometers so that the proportion of current and voltage feedback can be set. The fed back signals are summed together with a reference voltage, from a potentiometer, in summing filter amplifier 42 which includes a low pass filter to eliminate ripple from the fed back signals. The signal on line 50 passes through an amplifier having a settable integral plus proportional characteristic to the over-current unit and the firing unit SS for the SCR's in rectifier 14 to provide the desired arc voltage and current. Starting circuit 53 Fig. 2 (not shown) To facilitate starting the arc it is neccessary to sustain a starting current until the arc is stabilized and this is achieved by control 53 which includes a circuit for providing a separate higher starting reference voltage and a circuit for providing an output when the current feedback signal is greater than a pre-set start reference signal to operate a relay to undamp the output of amplifier 52. To avoid oscillatory operation of the relay a time delay network is included comprising a series of capacitors, one of which may be selected by a switch so that changeover to normal operation is delayed until the arc current has exceeded the start reference signal for a selected period. Overcurrent protection Fig. 2a (not shown) The arc current is combined with a voltage reference signal and supplied to an integrating operational amplifier whose output is applied to a further operational amplifier which supplies an SCR in a relay supply circuit so that on an overcurrent of sufficient magnitude, i.e. amplitude and/ or duration, being present the relay operates to break the connection between amplifier 52 and firing unit 55. An alarm system is provided to indicate overcurrent tripping. Pulse generator A pulsing control of the SCR's may be used to give a stirring or wetting action in the weld melt and thus improve the quality of the finished weld. The generator 250 provides pulses which are applied to the amplifier 42 when a manually operated switch is closed. This technique is especially suitable when a continuous background current is present.
