PURPOSE:To improve the contact between a head and a vertical magnetiation medium consisting of a columnar crystal of which the C axis is perpendicular to a substrate plane and to decrease noise by providing a stage for forming said medium by sputtering or vacuum deposition on the substrate. CONSTITUTION:Co-Cr is used as a vertical magnetization film, and is sputtered in an Ar atmosphere kept under 10<-3>-10<-2>Torr on a substrate, whereby a film having uniaxial magnetic anisotropy in a perpendicular direction is formed. The surface of the medium is then polished with a polishing agent such as alumina, iron oxide red, chromium oxide, diamond paste or the like, whereby the surface is polished to 0.02mum ruggedness. The value 0.02mum is approximately equal to the surface roughness of a horizontal magnetization medium ad the noise in a vertical magnetization system is reduced to about the same level as the noise in a horizontal magnetization system. |
