PURPOSE:To prevent the lost motion of an engine and its mal-start by adjusting the start pressure depending upon the engine rotating speed signal oil pressure and start adjusting pressure by means of a starting valve and making the start pressure constant independent of the rotating speed during idling. CONSTITUTION:The start pressure pressure-adjusted by a starting valve 116 is supplied to a clutch for advance. The start pressure is proportional to the engine rotating speed signal oil pressure obtained by a Pitot tube 20 and is inversely proportional to the start adjusting pressure obtained by a start adjusting valve 118. The adjusting valve 118 is controlled by a speed change control unit 300. When the engine is idle while a car is being stopped, the valve is controlled so that the start adjusting pressure can correct the variation of the engine rotating speed and the start pressure can always be fixed. When the idling speed is increased, the rotating speed signal oil pressure is increased. Since the start adjusting pressure is also increased based on the command of a control unit 300 and two opposed types of force that are actuated on the starting valve 116 are always fixed, the start pressure is kept constant and a mal-start and such can be prevented.
