PURPOSE:To sharply reduce the quick traversing time and rewinding time of a magnetic tape, by reducing the tape speed at the time of quick traversing and rewinding by detecting the starting section and ending section of a magnetic tape and increasing the tape speed at the central section of the magnetic tape. CONSTITUTION:At the time of quick traversing (FF) a magnetic tape 2 is wound by a winding side reel 6 from a supplying side reel 5. The output of frequency- voltage converting circuits 11 and 12 is inputted into a tape diameter comparing circuit 21 and the size of tape diameters around the supplying side and winding side tape reels 5 and 6 are judged, and thus, it is discriminated whether present tape position is in the first half or second half of the whole tape length. Moreover, the quick traversing time and rewinding time of the magnetic tape is sharply reduced, by detecting the starting and ending sections of the magnetic tape and reducing the tape speed at the time of quick traversing and rewinding and increasing the tape speed at the central section of the magnetic tape. |
