PURPOSE:To obtain an excellent recording medium by providing a magnetic coating layer having a surface specific resistance of a specific value or above on a substrate of a polymer molding and forming a thin ferromagnetic metallic film layer thereon in a vacuum then cooling the substrate in tight contact with a cooling fan thereby preventing the thermal deterioration of the coating layer. CONSTITUTION:A dispersion contg. magnetic powder and a binder so as to have >=10<11>OMEGA/? specific surface resistance of a magnetic coating layer 1 is coated on a substrate 3 of a polyester film or the like and is dried. While the coated film is moved along a cooling can 7 in an arrow direction, a beam is irradiated from an electron beam generation source 6 to a vapor deposition source 8 in a vacuum to deposit a Co-Ni alloy, etc. from said source on the film at a high filming speed of 1,000Angstrom /sec. Since the film 1 formed in the above-mentioned way has high resistance, the adhesion of the film 1 to the can 7 is improved by the electrical attraction between the can 7 and the film 1 on account of the stripping electrification in the stage of rewinding the film 1 on the can 7, the triboelectrification during traveling, and the electret formation or charge-up by implantation of the electron beam and through cooling is accomplished, whereby the thermal damage of the magnetic coating film is prevented. |
