[Also in Division G3] In an automatic edge guiding system for a moving web, means detecting lateral movement of the web control an intermittently operating motor moving coupled ends of two guide rolls so that they are pivoted about their other ends to correct the lateral position of the web. In Fig. 2, an endless belt 10, e.g. for conveying corrugated paperboard, passes over a roller 11 and under a parallel roller 12. At one side the rollers are mounted in bearers 21 which are rotatable about fixed vertical axes, and at the other side the rollers are mounted in bearers 23 which are rotatable about vertical axes on a member 27 which is movable longitudinally by a fluid-pressure servomotor 16. Lateral movement of the belt beyond predetermined limits in either sense actuates a corresponding switch member 63 so that servomotor 16 is operated in the appropriate direction to correct the lateral position of the belt by skewing rollers 11, 12. Servomotor 16 is also controlled by a pair of delayed relays so that, when it operates, it does so intermittently after a predetermined interval, and for predetermined periods. Initial setting of rollers 11, 12 is facilitated by a threaded coupling 49. |
