PURPOSE:To reduce the attenuation of a recorded picture, by using a laser light having a prescribed characteristic as an exciting light to excite storage type phosphor materials and receiving the light of a prescribed wave length range out of the emitted light by a photodetector. CONSTITUTION:When X rays are radiated from an X-ray tube and are irradiated to a human body, the intensity pattern is incident to a panel, and an X-ray energy is stored in the panel in a shape of the image. This panel is scanned with an Ar<+> laser spot having 514.5nm oscillation wavelength, and this energy is excited from the trap to generate an exciting light having a wavelength of 300- 500nm, and this exciting light is measured by the photodetector. The output signal from the photodetector is amplified and filtered and is subjected to level conversion to eliminate the noise, thus attaining a prescribed resolving power.
