PURPOSE:To improve sheet feeding and separating performance, by a method wherein, during feed of sheets of high friction, a pickup roller is forced into press contact with a sheet bundle until the sheet to be fed is held between a feed roller and a pair of separating roller and after that, pressure is reduced or the pickup roller is separated away from the sheet bundle. CONSTITUTION:Where sheets, having high coefficnet of friction, are in use, a shift lever 20 is positioned as shown in a drawing, a stopper 19 is forced into contact with the outer periphery of a cam 13 through the force of a spring 21 to bring a claw 16 into engagement with the stopper, and the claw 16 is separated away from a latchet 15. Under this condition, the projection of the cam engages with a pin 12, and a pickup roller 2 is spaced away from a sheet bundle. In this case, a sheet feed signal is fed to energize a solenoid 18, and when the stopper 19 is pulled and released from engagement with the claw 16, the claw 16 engages with the latchet 15, and rotation of the cam 13 results in frictional engagement of the pickup roller 2 with the sheet bundle. Thereafrer, when a solenoid 18 is switched OFF at a given timing, the stopper 19 is returned back to its original position, and the roller 2 is spaced away from the sheet bundle again. |
