The arrangement, to determine parameters of particles of the order of one micrometer in the form of a powder or a liq. or gaseous suspension, has a non-divergent reflector (1) with a surface of second degree, i.e. a paraboloid or ellipsoid surface. A capillary tube (3) of transparent material, e.g. glass passes through the focal point (F) of the reflector and is of a size which permits individual particles to flow through when pumped (4) from a supply container (5). After passing through the reflector, the tube bends to deliver the particles to a sorting or receivinginstrument. The light projector (6) has a source of emission (7), pref. a laser, whose rays are so directed that they strike the focal point (F) of the capillary tube from a vertical direction. A mask (9) held by the tube has a surface which prevents diffracted light which was not reflected by the reflector from reaching a photo-sensitive element (10). The latter, pref. the lens of a video camera, receives and evaluates light from the reflector and transmits its received signals to a signal processor (11).
