The mechanism for grinding or for polishing tiles or marble etc comprises a rotating head carrying a number of rotating discs provided with diamond covered elements. These tools rotate about shafts which are parallel and laterally offset relative to the spindle axis of the head. The head is provided with water ducts leading from a central axial supply duct to a connector supplying each tool from the top via hollow shafts. The shafts may be provided with integral planet gear wheels meshing with a non-rotatable central sun wheel.
