PURPOSE:To unclog a filter provided in the exhaust system of a Diesel engine, by returning the exhaust gas of at least one of cylinders at the time of the clogging of the filter so that the exhaust gas whose still unburned content is increased is introduced into a reactor. CONSTITUTION:A by-pass 6, which detours a reactor 4 and is opened or closed by a valve 7, is provided for the connected portions of the exhaust passage 3a of a cylinder 1A of a Diesel engine 2 and the exhaust passage 3b of its other cylinders 1B-1D. An exhaust gas return passage 9, which communicates with the intake passage 2a of the cylinder 1A and is fitted with a return control valve 10, is provided upstream to the opening/closing valve 7. When the filter 5 of the reactor 4 has gotten clogged, a controller 11, which receives the signal of an exhaust prssure sensor 12 upstream to the reactor and receives a signal indicating the temperatre of the filter, acts to open the by-pass 6 by the valve 7 and return the exhaust gas of the engine 2 to the intake passage 2A through the return control valve 10 to deteriorate the combustion in the cylinder 1A. |
