A method for the tin-coating, in particular for the long-length tin-coating, of the end of a conductor (2) is carried out in such a manner that an insulating cover section (6) is separated at the end of the conductor (2) from the rest of the insulating cover (4) by notching. The conductor (2) comes into contact with a downwardly directed tin-bath overflow. The insulating cover section (6) which is formed by notching is however shifted only to a limited extent by axial tension on the end of the conductor (2) in the direction of the free end. The exposed conductor is tin-coated in the state in which it is held together by the insulating cover section (6). Subsequently, after the tin-coating has solidified, the insulating cover section (6) is removed or cut off with a knife (26). The desired tinning length (8) results.
