<p>A heavier-than-air machine comprises a body (10) which carries a plurality of powered fans which operate to direct air downwards. Two inflated envelopes (25 and 26) are fitted to the body with their volumetric centres above the centre of gravity of the machine. Provision of the inflated envelopes (25 and 26) leads to the machine being inherently aerodynamically stable when operating in ground effect, VTOL, hovering, transitional and forward flight and even in free unpowered vertical descent modes. </p> |
