A seat base 12 has a tape embedded in or bonded to the base 12. A padding layer 10 and cover 9 are provided over base 12. The cover 9 is welded through the padding 10 to the tape 13 by means of a welder (14, 14', Fig. 6). The cover 9, backing 11, and tape 13 are each made of or comprise a high frequency electric weldable material such as nylon, polyester or polyvinyl chloride.
