PURPOSE:To improve accuracy and reliability, by comparing the measured thickness signal from a radiation thickness gage and the amount of displacement from a bus line A, using the amount of error obtained by the comparison as a correcting value, performing addition or subtraction to or from the measured thickness signal, thereby obtaining a thickness signal, which does not include the error due to the displacement of a material to be measured from a bus line. CONSTITUTION:The thickness of a material to be measured S is measured by a radiation thickness gage 1. At the same time, the amount of displacement of a displaced position A', at which the material S, whose plate thickness is measured, is positioned, from a bus line A is found. Based on the displacement of the material to be measured S from the bus line A, an error quantity DELTAt, which is the output of the radiation thickness gage 1 and included in a measured thickness signal 8, is computed. The error quantity DELTAt is subtracted from the measured thickness signal S, and a thickness signal 19 is obtained. Therefore, the thickness signal 19 does not include the error due to the displacement of the material to be measured S from the bus line A. Thus the accuracy of the radiation thickness gage 1 can be enhanced to a large extent. |
