In a bumper for motor vehicles, whose end parts are pulled laterally around the vehicle body and elastically fixed to the outer surface of the body at a distance therefrom, a spacing element is fixedly arranged in each case on a bumper end part and connected to a mounting screw which penetrates the vehicle body skin. In order to absorb impact stresses up to a specific order of magnitude virtually from any direction and to be able to absorb them without deformation of the adjacent vehicle body parts, the spacing element (10) is formed from a holding plate (14) which can be fixed on the bumper end (4', 4'', 5', 5'') and a hub part (15) which can be fixed on the vehicle body and holds the mounting screw (11), which are both (14, 15) arranged in adjacent parallel planes and integrally connected to one another via elastic spokes (16). <IMAGE>
