PURPOSE:To prevent a chip from making larger, and to prevent the occurrence of an access delay by not providing an ECC circuit. CONSTITUTION:To improve the reliability of a memory system, an error patrol is performed in a refresh time, and when an error is found, it is informed to a CPU, and the CPU moves a routine to an error process routine with an interruption instruction, and performs an error correction by writing a correct data on a memory. Therefore, it is no necessary to provide the ECC circuit on a memory chip, and the increase of the area of the memory chip and the access delay can be suppressed. Much incovenience is not rendered for a system even when no function to correct the error is prepared within the chip because an error rate is originally small, and a load on the CPU is not so much increased even when the CPU is made execute an error correction operation, and the operating efficiency of a computer system is not lowered.
