<p>A machine for loading magnetic tape into cassettes which comprises a splicing block assembly (5) mounted on a pivotally mounted support (26) and comprising two splicing blocks, one (22) fixed to the support and the second (24) pivotally mounted to the support, means (54) for rotating the second block (24) relative to the first block (22) so that either of two tape-receiving tracks (46, 48) on the second block (24) may be aligned with a single tape receiving track (42) on the first block (22), means (64) for rotating the support (26) between a first tape winding position and a second tape splicing position, and a splicer (6) for splicing abutting tape ends on the splicing block assembly (5) when the support is in the second tape splicing position. The machine also includes first and second spindles (20, 200) movable into and out engagement with the two hubs of a cassette in loading position, first and second (18, 198) motors for rotating said spindles so as rotate said hubs, a selectively engeagable clutch (160) connecting the first spindle (20) to said first motor (18), means (474) for energizing said second motor (198) while said clutch (160) is disengaged so as to transfer leader from one hub to the other hub, selectively operable means (474) for energizing said first motor (18), and means (474) for engaging said clutch (160) when said first motor (18) is energized. The machine is arranged so that it may be easily adapted for loading two different types of video cassettes. </p> |
