Method for determining gun sites

For acoustically locating guns, at least two measuring crosses of four adjacently arranged microphones are set up at known positions in the terrain. From transit time differences of muzzle reports of the guns at diametrically opposite microphones of each measuring cross, direction-finding angles are calculated and from these the gun sites are determined, taking into consideration the positions of the measuring crosses. To eliminate direction-finding errors due to wind influences on the propagation of the muzzle report from the gun site to the measuring cross, a sound pulse is sent out from the centre of the measuring cross in shooting pauses and the differences in its reception time at the microphones are evaluated for determining wind strength and wind direction. A correction angle is determined for each direction-finding angle from the ratio between wind strength and sound velocity and a difference angle from wind direction and direction-finding angle. For entering the gun sites into a situation map for artillery reconnaissance, the direction between position and gun sites is determined from the difference between the direction- finding angle and the correction angle.
