The invention relates to a catheter tube with a plastic core and, arranged on the latter, a sheath increasing the resistance to pressure and the torsional rigidity. In order to keep the wall thickness of the core and of the insulating layer small and in order to simplify the method for producing a tube of this type, the invention proposes that the sheath (4) consist of synthetic fibres (3) and that the individual synthetic fibres (3) be covered at least partially with a metal layer (7). <IMAGE>
