A bag for contaminated laundry is formed of a hydrophobic or water-insoluble sheet material and has a seam 18, Fig. 2 comprising a cold water-soluble or -dispersible strip 22 overlying an overlapped marginal edge 16 of the sheet-material and adhered thereto by an intermediate water-insoluble and impermeable layer 20 of low intrinsic tensile strength. To produce the bag a continuous polyethylene tube 30 (Fig. 3) is slit at a station 30 and one slit edge caused to deviate and underlap the other by an angled roller. Adhesive 50 is coated on the underside of a PVOH strip 36 by a roller 46, which is adhered to the overlapped portions at roll 70.
