PURPOSE:To provide a non-steroidal antiphlogistic agent and antirheumatic agent having low toxicity and high safety and applicable continuously for a long period, by using 3,7,11.15-tetramethyl-2,4,6,10,14-hexadecapentaenoic acid or its salt as an active component. CONSTITUTION:The titled agent contains 3,7,11,15-tetramethyl-2,4,6,10,14-hexadecapentaneoic acid of formula I or its salt as an active component. The agent is administered in the form of tablet, granule, powder, etc. by using a vehicle such as lactose, a binder such as polyvinyl alcohol, a disintegrant such as starch, etc. Dose: 0.1-2,000mg, preferably about 0.1-500mg of the active component daily for adult. The active component of formula I can be prepared, e.g. by reacting the compound of formula IIwith a Wittig reagent derived from the compound of formula III (X is halogen; R1 is lower alkyl), and hydrolyzing the resultant compound of formula IV in the presence of a base.
