A hydraulic control system primarily intended for tipper vehicles has a source of power for supplying pressurised liquid to a ram mechanism and control means including a valve mechanism (16) moved by air pressure cylinder mechanism (23). The valve mechanism includes a valve (33) and a valve seat (34) for controlling the passage of fluid from the ram mechanism and a liquid reservoir and a balancing valve stem (32) wherein the cross sectional areas of the valve seat and the valve stem are substantially the same.
