PURPOSE:To obtain the titled amorphous compound material useful as magnetic materials, light-responsive magnetic elements and temperature-responsive magnetic elements, etc., by melting a mixture of bismuth oxide with iron oxide having a specific composition ratio under heating, and superquenching the resultant melt. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of bismuth oxide with iron oxide having the following weight ratio; (Fe2O3)x.(Bi2O3)1-x (0.90>=x>0) is molten under heating and then superquenched. The melting under heating is carried out within 50-200 deg.C or more higher temperature range than the melting temperature of the mixture. The superquenching is carried out usually at about 10<4>-10<6> deg.C/sec quenching rate. An example of a quenching apparatus is indicated by a numeral 3 in the figure. The quenching apparaus has an induction heating coil 5, raw material heating tube 7, nozzle 11 for jetting a molten raw material, quenching roll 13, cooling nozzle 13 for the nozzle 11, air nozzle 17 for preventing eddy currents, air cylinder 21, receiving box 23 for the quenched material, taking outlet 25 for the quenched material, etc. as main constituent parts. |
