PURPOSE:To obtain an optical fiber covered with a metallic tube having stepped diameter, by inserting an optical fiber into metallic tube, drawing the tube together with the fiber with die, roller, etc., and cutting the obtained covered fiber. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 1 is inserted in a metallic tube 2, and the outer diameter 11 of the metallic tube 2 is reduced by partially drawing the metallic tube 2 together with the optical fiber 1. The partially drawn tube containing a large-diameter part and a small-diameter part is cut to a length of <=100mm. to obtain an optical fiber coated with the metallic tube 2 having stepped diameter, i.e. the large diameter part 2 and the small diameter part 22. When the die is attached to a pressing means, and the processing is repeated, the optical fiber can be produced at high speed in large quantities. |
