Synergistic herbicidal compositions, partic. weedkillers, contg. one or more of the following cpds. as active ingredients (a) substd. phenoxycarboxylic acids and derivs. thereof, esp. 2,4-dichloro-, 2-methyl-4-chloro- and 2,4,5-trichloro-phenoxyacetic acids, or 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxypropionic acid; (b) substd. benzoic acids and derivs. thereof, specifically 2-methoxy-3,4-dichlorobenzoic acid; (c) picolinic acids and derivs. thereof esp. 3,5,6-trichloro-4-aminopicolinic acid; (d) anilides, such as 3,4-dichloropropionanilide or 3-chloro-4-methylphenyl-2-methylpentanoamide; and (e) dipyridyls, partic. 1,1'-ethylene-2,2'-dipyridyl and 1,1'-dimethyl-4,4'-dipyridyl, or their salts or esters, dispersed in appropriate carriers or diluents at concentrations of 5-70%, pref. 15-50%. These substances have hormone-like activity and suitable mixtures exhibit synergistic properties. Can be applied to industrial land to provide freedom from plant growth for about a year, or dilute solns. can be used on agricultural crops to minimise weed infestation. Examples show activity of composition against Sinapis alba, Scirpus maritimus and Alisma plantage. |
