Apparatus for supplying to a patient two gases (e.g. oxygen or air and nitrogen monoxide), in adjustable proportion but at a substantially constant rate, comprises a first conduit 1 leading to a mixing chamber 4 and including a first pressure regulator 6, a second conduit 2 leading to the mixing chamber 4 and including a second pressure regulator 58, an adjustable throttling device 23 in the first conduit, and a conduit 70 connecting the inlet 25 of the throttling device to the membrane of the second pressure regulator 58. The arrangement is such that an adjustment of the throttling device 23 to vary the rate of flow of a first gas through the conduit 1 creates a pressure change at the inlet 25, which provides an opposite variation in the rate of flow of the second gas through the conduit 2. As shown, the apparatus also includes a snap action on-off valve 16 controlled by the pressure in a conduit 5 leading to the patient, a rubber bag 37 which acts as a reservoir and which may be squeezed to provide artificial respiration to the patient, a valve arrangement 38 which may be held open by a knob 47, and inspiration and expiration valves 53, 57. A vane moving on a pivot 35 provides an indication of the proportions of the gases in the mixture. |
