Graphical data elements having predetermined interrelationships are displayed on the screen of a cathode-ray tube under the control of data words (code signals) which are so formatted that selection of particular data elements by a lightpen connected to logic control circuitry results in the selected data elements and the data elements related thereto to be displayed with increased light intensity. The invention is described in connection with the display of the sales organization of a commercial company (Fig. 3) the actual command chain of which is as shown in Fig. 2 and the (binary) signal data words which control known character generating means to cause the display tube to display the various names are so formatted that by use of the light-pen the relationships shown in Fig. 2 may be indicated on the display tube screen by an increase in brightness of particular names. Also the value of sales effected by individuals alone and in the case of those of supervisor level and above, by themselves and these under their command may also be indicated. Thus, by selecting "Supervisor" and "level" (Fig. 9) by the light-pen the names of the four supervisors are brightened and by selecting "Salesman" and a particular name KERN, R, F (Fig. 5) the value of this salesman's sales is indicated under the Sales Volume. Also by selecting "Area Manager" and a particular area manager, KERN, R, F, (Fig. 6) the value of the sales effected by this manager and all of those under this command is indicated. Examples of various data words are discussed with reference to Figs. 7A ... 7F (not shown) and the logic circuitry associated with the display and light-pen control is described with reference to Figs. 9A, 9B (not shown). The data is made available in a circulating memory 10 (Fig. 1) which may be associated with a plurality of display devices. |
