[Also in Division D1] Amino-phenols of Formula I in which R is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or -COCH 3 group or a radical of formula -CH 2 CONR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>11</SP> or of formula -(CHE) n -NR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>11</SP> in which each of R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> which may be the same or different represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl group, E is a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group and n is an integer 2-4 are prepared by reducing 3 - nitro - 4 - methoxymesyloxybenzene prepared by nitration of 4-methoxymesyloxybenzene the amino compound may then be reacted with a halide corresponding to R in the final product followed by an alkaline hydrolysis. In particular the compounds 3- amino - 4 - methoxy phenol, 3 - hydroxyethylamino - 4 - methoxy phenol and 3 - N - carbamyi - methylamino - 4 - methoxy phenol are prepared. |
