PURPOSE:To obtain an element which is capable of forming a picture of good quality with a high driving property by combining and using plural heating resistators as a heating element, in a display element which utilizes an optical physical property variation of a liquid layer generated by heating imagewise a light transmitting liquid layer. CONSTITUTION:A heating element 1, a liquid layer 2 and a transparent protective plate 3 are laminated on a substrate 5, and a picture is displayed by using an optical physical property variation generated in a liquid layer heating part 13 by being heated by a heating part 1a of the heating element 1, and modulating incident light 4. In said display element, a heating element formed by arraying like a matrix plural heating resistance wires (for instance, a transparent thin film of indium, tin and oxide) 41, 42 so as to cross each other by placing a transparent insulating layer 40 between them is used as the heating element (said heating element heats the part of the liquid layer 2 corresponding to the crossing area of both only when prescribed selected heating resistance wires 41, 42 are heated simultaneously). |
