Heading ASB. {Also in Division C4] Therapeutically active 'salts of 5-[p-(2-pyridylsulphamyl)-phenylazo]-salicylic acid with amines of formula wherein R 1 and R 2 are H or C 1 -C 6 alkyl or hydroxyalkyl groups in which the alkyl chains may be interrupted by oxygen atoms or is a saturated heterocyclic ring' system, R 3 is a C 2 -C 6 aliphatic radical optionally containing oxygen atoms in the chain and which may contain aldehyde or keto groups and n is 1-5 the nitrogen of the amine part of the salts being not directly bound to a carbon atom carrying an oxygen atom and no carbon atom being bound to more 'than one oxygen atom, one hydroxyl group being optionally etherified with a C 1-6 alkyl group. The salts may be prepared by double decomposition of the corresponding salts of the acid and amine, but are preferably prepared by reacting equimolar amounts of the acid and amine in a solvent. In Examples the methylglucamine, 2-methoxyethylamine, mono-, di- and triethanolamine, amino-propanol or -butanal, dialkylamino-ethanol or -propanol alkyl-diethanolamine, 2-amino-2-hydroxymethyl-propane-1:3-diol, 2-piperidino-ethanol, 3-'piperidino-propanol 3-(N-morpholino)-(propanol and gJucosamine salts are prepared in aqueous solution may be administered orally or by injection and give higher serum levels than the corresponding acid taken in tablet, suppository or suspension form. |
