PURPOSE:To prepare L-glutamic acid, economically, by culturing a specific mutant belonging to Brevibacterium genus or Corynebacterium genus and capable of producing L-glutamic acid aerobically in a biotincontaining liquid medium. CONSTITUTION:Amutant capable of producing L-glutamic acid and exhibiting accelerated growth by the addition of an aromatic amino acid (e.g. L-phenylalanine), e.g. Brevibacterium lactofermentum (FERM-P No. 6754), is prepared by the mutagenic treatment of a microbial strain belonging to Brevibacterium genus or corynebacterium genus and capable of producing L-glutamic acid. The mutant is cultured aerobically in a liquid medium containing an aromatic amino acid and 5-40gamma/l of biotin, and the L-glutamic acid produced and accumulated in the culture liquid is separated. |
