A non-atmospheric gas burner comprises a hollow cylindrical body 1 provided at the top with a closure member 3 in which there is formed an elongated slit 18 (Fig. 15) or row of holes 4 (Fig. 1) which in use produce a main flame fed with secondary combustion air: the main flame may be protected by guard plates 7 or in the case of Fig. 24 which incorporates a row of holes the main flame is protected by a sheet of flame issuing from an annular slit 39 and serving also as a pilot flame. In the embodiment of Figs. 1-3 small bores 5 are provided at the ends of the row of holes 4 which produce pilot jets of gas flow which impinge on grid-like baffles 6 to slow down the flow of gas. The grids 6 are secured to the guard plates 7 which are themselves connected to a collar 13. A grid 8 disposed in the body 1 prevents impurities reaching the holes 4 and the bores 5, and the body 1 has a threaded extension 2 for connection to a main gas pipe. In the embodiment of Figs. 4-6 (not shown) the baffles are tubular. In the embodiment Figs. 7-9, the baffles are dispensed with and, instead the ends 10 of the side plates 7 are bent towards one another. In the embodiment of Figs. 10-11 (not shown) holes are formed in the base of the side plates to aid the supply of combustion air. In the embodiment of Figs. 12- 13 (not shown) gas flow through the extension is restricted by means of an orifice (12). Fig. 14 shows an arrangement of burners in a row with the flame darts overlapping to permit rapid ignition, and several such rows of burners may be provided. Figs. 15-17 have holes 19 at the end of the slit 18. In the embodiment of Figs. 18-20 (not shown) one annular conduit (27) feeds the pilot flame jets and the embodiment of Figs. 21-24 (not shown) has additional holes to produce pilot jets. |
