摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To provide a composite material having excellent processability, tensile strength and frictional wear resistance to a mating material by regulating the amt. and bulk density of the non-fibrous particles to be contained in an assemblage of silicon carbide whiskers as reinforcing material and using an Al alloy, etc. as a matrix. CONSTITUTION:An assemblage of silicon carbide whiskers contg. <=5wt%, preferably <=3wt%, non-fibrous particles of >=150mu diameter and having >=0.7g/cc bulk density of silicon carbide whiskers is prepared. A reinforcing material obtd. by treating such assmemblage in a way as to have >=0.5kg/cm<2>, more particularly, >=0.8kg/cm<2> compressive strength is disposed in a casting mold. The melt of the metal selected from Al, Mg, Sn, Cu, lead, Zn and the alloy thereof is charged into the casting mold, and while the molten metal is pressurized in the casting mold, the metal is solidified and an intended composite material is obtd. The composite material has excellent mechanical properties such as wear resistance in addition to the above-described characteristics.</p>
