发明名称 MAGNETO-RESISTANCE EFFECT HEAD
摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a magneto-resistance effect head possible for reproducing signals up to very short wavelength, by eliminating the element width loss in a single MR head and a gap loss in a shield form MR head. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic flux generated from the signal magnetization recorded on a vertical recording medium 7 is led from a lower end of the MR element 4, passes through the MR element 4, and is led to an end 9 of a notch groove 2 in a substrate 1 from the upper end, is led to a contact surface 10 with the medium 7 through the substrate 1, returns to the medium 7 and passes through a closed circuit returning to the lower end of the MR element 4 via a soft magnetic layer 7' at the rear side of the medium. As a result, the element width loss being specific problem to the single MR element operated in response to a spatial magnetic field and the gap loss being a problem in the shield form MR head are eliminated. The thickness of the MR element is taken as nearly >=1/3 in comparison with the recording wavelength to be reproduced, and then the thickness loss of the MR element corresponding to the gap of a ring head is increased. Further, the size of the notch groove 2 is designed to a degree that it does not act like the so-called gap of the shield form MR head at recording wavelengths to be reproduced.
