MANUFACTUE OF ENDLESS ROUND PACKING

PURPOSE:To obtain an accurate roundness and dimensions of a high accuracy over the overall length by keeping an endless member irregularly twisted recipprocating it axially or in the direction of axis center to uniformize the grinding of an endless member with an angular section in the entire outer surface with a grinding stone. CONSTITUTION:An endless member 5 with an angular section is looped on a drive shaft 1 having a circular material supply groove 2 on the circumferential surface and a driven shaft 3 supported rotatably and a grinding stone 9 is brought into slide contact with the endless member 5 set in motion with the rotation of the drive shaft 1. At this point, the driven shaft 3 is moved A relative to the drive shaft 1 axially or oscillated B in the direction of center axis to cause a change in the twisting of the endless material 5. This keeps the endless member 5 irregularly twisted as advancing into a material supply groove 2 of the drive shaft 1 to bring the entire outer surface of the endless member 5 into even contact with the circumferential surface of a grinding stone 9. Thus, the endless round packing ground can provide an accurate circular section and a dimensional accuracy over the overall length thereof.
