PURPOSE:To improve the output of an engine by simple constitution without causing any necessity for using a supercharger or the like, by propagating a compression wave, generated in an intake passage when an intake port in one cylinder is opened, to an intake port immediately before its full closing in the other cylinder, when the two-cylinder engine of side intake port type is driven at a high speed. CONSTITUTION:When an engine is driven at a high speed, a compression wave, generated in a passage 16b at opening of an intake port 3, for instance, in a cylinder 1B, is propagated to an intake port 3 operated to be first in an intake storke with a 180 deg. phase difference and immediately before full closing of in a cylinder 1A, via a passage in an adequate length set between the intake ports 3, 3. As a result, intake air is forced to enter a working chamber 8 with the controlled blow back, and a supercharging is performed. Next, a compression wave, generated by opening the intake port 3 of the cylinder 1A after 180 deg., is similarly propagated to the intake port 3 immediately before full closing in the cylinder 1B and a supercharging is performed. In this way, a cost down of the engine can be promoted by simplifying its construction without causing any necessity for using a supercharger or the like. |
