摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To obtain efficiently a strip having excellent dimensional accuracy without relying upon human perception by detecting an abnormal tension by a behavior of the sum of field currents of the motors for driving left and right reels which impose a tension upon a strip, and controlling the operation of a rolling mill. CONSTITUTION:A strip 4 uncoiled from a coil placed on a reel 2 is rolled by rolling rolls 1 and coiled by a left reel 3. At that time, the field currents of left and right reels are converted into voltages by detecting resistances 11 and inputted to a adding/comparing operator serving as an abnormality detecting device to discriminate automatically the generation of abnormal tension. Said operator is set, basing on the sum of the field currents of DC motors, used for driving the left and right reels 2, 3, in normal operation, so that it outputs an electric signal of discriminating the abnormality when the sum reaches an allowable limit value. A stopping device of rolling mill is actuated simultaneously with the output of said signal.</p>
