Apparatus for cleaning submerged bodies, comprising at least one water turbine, of the axial-flow type, housed within a flat casing, and a pair of brushes mounted on that face of the casing opposite the water-jet discharge orifice of the turbine motor and driven in opposite directions to each other at high speed by the rotor of said turbine, characterised by a suction device for the dirt detached from the cleaned surfaces and comprising a suction chamber 6 attached to the side face of the flat casing 3 of the cleaning apparatus, the said chamber having an open bottom arranged above and in the immediate vicinity of the zone of concentration of the dirt stripped off by the brushes 1-2 and being equipped with a discharge duct 7 for the dirt, which duct is connected to a receptacle 8, a duct 9 for supplying pressurised water being connected to the said discharge duct via an element 10 which accelerates the working fluid. The said water-supply duct 9 is connected to the turbine supply. Application to the brushing of ship hulls. <IMAGE>
