The endoscopic system consists of a light guide forming a thick lens G with a distal face GD and a proximal face GP, and of a focusing device L on the side of the largest face of the light guide. The light guide L has, at least along a portion carrying the distal face GD, a truncated cylindrical section. The focusing device L consists of a terrestrial telescope L with a real eyepiece ring AO and a real diaphragm D in a position conjugate to the distal face GD of the light guide G.
