PURPOSE:To enhance the economy and efficiency of a power converter by using the first bridge having an arm composed of a self-extinguishing type switch and a high speed diode and the second bridge having an arm composed of an active element having low forward voltage drop. CONSTITUTION:The AC side connecting terminal of a transistor bridge 4 is connected through an AC reactor 3 to an AC power source. The AC side connecting terminal of a diode bridge 10 is connected directly or through an AC reactor to the AC power source 1. The DC side of the bridge 10 is connected in parallel with the DC side of the bridge 4. A diode 4b connected in parallel with a transistor 4a is necessarily a high speed diode, but the diode forming the diode 10 can use a general rectifying diode. The forward voltage drop of the diode forming the bridge 10 is low as compared with the diode 4b, and high efficiency operation can be performed. |
