Two pairs of jaws 12-13, 16-17 are intended to be clamped, in two locations, onto a specimen 42 and they each comprise an outer half-ring and a half-shell which is detachably fitted inside the half-ring so that it can be firmly attached to the latter in the direction parallel to the axis of the specimen, each half-shell having, over its inner surface, at least one raised (relief) portion intended to define the contact with the outer surface of the specimen; a pair of jaws 12-13 is mounted on rods 10-11 which can move in relation to the other and which are associated with displacement sensors 19-20. <IMAGE>
