PURPOSE:To produce a fiber reinforced metallic hollow member in the stage of producing said member by extending carbon fibers, etc. in the hollow part in a casting mold and charging gently a molten metal into the casting mold. CONSTITUTION:A molten metal is cast into a hollow part 8 of a casting mold consisting of a top mold 6, a bottom mold 5 and a core 7, whereby a hollow metallic member reinforced with carbon fibers, etc. is produced. Carbon fibers 10 are mounted, via pieces 9 made of the same metallic material as a casting metal, in the inside walls 6a, 5a on the curved inside of the molds 6, 5 in this case. The fibers 10 are also mounted, via the pieces 9, similarly on the top and bottom faces 7a, 7b and side face 7c of the core 7. The fibers 10 are positioned to face to the hollow part 8 in the casting mold. The molten metal is cast gently in the hollow part 8 in this stage and is uniformly distributed without distributing the arrangement of the carbon fibers, whereby the fiber reinforced metallic hollow material is obtd. |
