A folded-seam joint (3) in whose pocket (5) there has been arranged a heat-curable seam adhesive (6) is efficiently sealed by applying to the open edge (4) of the folded-seam joint a bead (7) of a gellable or curable material and gelling or curing the material by means of two heat treatments, of which the first heat treatment consists in heat supply from the outside, for example in the form of infrared irradiation, and the second heat treatment consists in heat supply from the inside of the metallic parts (1, 2) of the folded-seam joint (3) in the form of inductive heating.
