Ultrasonic apparatus and methods of operation thereof for measuring and remotely displaying the amounts of fuel and water in a tank (5), include an ultrasonic transducer (22) at a fixed distance above the bottom of the tank (5), a plurality of submerged reflectors (11 - 15) vertically arranged at fixed distances above the transducer (22) and a remote console (30), containing a computer, for activating the transducer (22), and receiving signals of ultrasonic reflections developed by the transducer (22). The reflectors (11 - 15) are thin, planar sheets increasing in horizontal length with increasing distance from the transducer (22), the lower edges of which may be concave to maximise the reflections of ultrasonic pulses from the transducer (22) back through the fluid to the transducer (22). |
