A method for the computer-controlled monitoring of screw connections by measuring the torque or rotary-angle profile against time or the torque profile against the rotary angle beyond the moment of applying a maximum tightening torque and by determining the area which is enclosed under the corresponding curve piece with the time axis or rotary-angle axis. The size of this area is a measure of the correct tightening of a screw connection. Large values result if the cap-screw bearing surface and workpiece surface are not frictionally connected, so that, as a result of elastic torsion of the screw shank, a restoring moment resulting from this appears at the screw spindle.
