In the heating and cooling device, a latent storage container (10) is combined with a heat pump (31) with a closed circuit consisting of a series connection of a compressor (30), a primary and a secondary heat exchanger (28, 32), the primary heat exchanger being arranged in the phase-change medium contained in the latent storage container, while the secondary heat exchanger is connected downstream of the latent storage container. This affords the possibility of storing heat in the latent storage container with a heat transfer medium (e.g. environmental air) even when the temperature of the heat transfer medium is lower than that of the phase-change medium contained in the latent storage container (10).
