The invention relates to a loading device for refuse compaction vehicles with a loading tank with an outline in the shape of a section of a cylinder arranged in the rear part of the refuse compaction vehicle, the axis of the cylinder extending transversely to the refuse compaction vehicle and above the loading tank, and with a packing plate which on one side is guided on a guide rod which is mounted above the loading tank in a stationary manner and on the other side is guided on a rocker arm which is driven and mounted above the loading tank in a stationary manner. In order to prevent compaction of the refuse when the packing plate is operated, the rocker arm is to be mounted outside the axis of the cylinder.
