A novel process is described for the preparation of diaminoanthrimides of the formula <IMAGE> in which the symbols R and n have the meaning given under the formula as claimed in claim 1, by reacting dinitroanthrimides with formaldehyde in aqueous medium in the presence of an alkaline compound, a wetting agent and a catalyst.
