PURPOSE:To improve frictional property in a brake material made of a sheet comprising mainly synthetic fiber or the like having single yarn fineness less than 1 denier by setting apparent concentration and compressive elastic modulus of the sheet respectively to specified values. CONSTITUTION:When a brake material is made of a sheet comprising mainly synthetic fiber and/or reproduced fiber of single yarn fineness less than 1 denier, desirably 0.5 denier and having at least a portion of the single fiber self-bonded or bonded by high polymer binder, appareng concentration of the sheet is set to 0.20-0.95g/cm<2>. Also, the compressive elastic modulus of the sheet is set to at least 70%. Fibers consisting of linear polyester system polymer, linear polyamide system polymer and acrylic system polymer are preferably used for said synthetic fiber and reproduced fiber. Thus, contact on a frictional contact surface becomes properly dense to provide a stable frictional property. |
